Dr. Richardson is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and did general surgery residency at the Mass General Hospital and minimally invasive fellowship at Emory. Since 1997 he has been at the Ochsner Clinic and is Section Head of General Surgery. He is a professor of the University of Queensland, the Ochsner Clinical School. He is the head of Bariatrics at Ochsner Main Campus which is the first nationally recognized Center of Excellence at Ochsner, now called an Accredited Center. He has over 100 pier reviewed medical publications.​
