ROLE Dr. Michaelson is the medical director of Northwest Weight & Wellness Center and has been exclusively focused on bariatrics since 2006. EXPERTISE Dr. Michaelson received both his PhD in Neuroendocrinology, and his M.D. with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors, from the University of Illinois. He completed his general surgery training at the University of California San Diego Medical Center in 2000 and went on to complete intense training in minimally invasive surgery at the Texas Endosurgery Institute. Dr. Michaelson is board certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. A past president of the Washington state chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Michaelson was honorably retired from the Medical Corps of the United States Navy after 23 years of service. He has been named one of Seattle’s “Top Docs” four times and was named “Best of Western Washington’s” Best Doctor in 2008. PATIENT FOCUS What Dr. Michaelson finds most rewarding is the ability to see his patients lose pounds and gain back their health. As patients shed weight, they also experience tremendous improvement in other conditions related to their weight—such as diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea. But most importantly, they find the energy to do more and begin to truly enjoy life again. INTERESTS In his free time, Dr. Michaelson enjoys cooking and activities on the water with his family.
