Dr Lutfi is a Foregut and Bariatric surgeon in a teaching community hospital in Chicago and a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He graduated from Damascus University as a physician, and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then went on to complete a research followed by a clinical fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. He then moved back to Chicago and founded the Chicago Institute of Advanced Surgery and became the Chairman of Surgery at Mercy Hospital and the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Presence St Joseph Hospital. Dr. Lutfi served as the 4th President of the Illinois Chapter of ASMBS and founded the Midwest Bariatric Summit attended by over 100 physicians and Allied Health yearly. He formed and Chairs the ASMBS Private Practice Committee, and is the current President of ASMBS Foundation.
