Dr. Owen Pyke is a member of the bariatrics care team at NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island, helping patients suffering from obesity lose excess body weight and improve their overall health. He uses minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques that involve tiny incisions.
He was raised in Queens, NY and Long Island, NY after emigrating from Jamaica to the United States at a young age. He is pleased to provide his surgical services to patients residing in Long Island and the greater New York area.
Dr. Pyke gravitated toward a career in medicine early in his educational career since it offered a unique path to serve the community and lifelong learning in the medical sciences field. After he graduated from Amherst College with a degree in neuroscience, he completed graduate studies in public health as well as obtaining an MD/MBA degree. His older brother and sister are both doctors serving as his earliest role models in the medical field.
Bariatric or weight loss surgery can cure related health conditions, including type 2 diabetes, elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, as well as obstructive sleep apnea, all which can increase your lifespan. This is a main reason why Dr. Pyke chose to practice in the field of medicine. He is fellowship-trained in bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, as well as robotic surgery. His rigorous and extensive training has prepared him to perform some of the most challenging surgical weight loss procedures, including bariatric revisions such as sleeve to gastric bypass or lap band to bypass surgery.
His extensive research has mainly focused on health literacy, surgical education, global surgery, and obesity surgery. He has a special focus in the management of ulcers and weight loss surgery. Dr. Pyke has a dedicated interest in the studying disease at both the individual and global population levels.
Dr. Pkye is compassionately dedicated to providing the best care for his patients in an effort to help them achieve their weight loss goals ensuring the best surgical care outcomes. He enjoy working with his patients after their surgical journey to help them obtain and maintain their weight loss.
