Ninoska “Nini” Peterson, PhD is a Staff Psychologist with the Cleveland Clinic’s Bariatric & Metabolic Institute (BMI) and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. She earned a master’s degree in exercise sport sciences and doctorate in clinical and health psychology from the University of Florida.
She completed her fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at the University of Virginia’s Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences. Her clinical and research interests include pre- and post-surgical factors associated with long-term weight management, lifestyle treatment of obesity, binge eating treatment, self-monitoring, and body-image disturbance.
She is the current IH-Secretary (2024-2025) and a recent Member-at-Large on the IH Executive Council (2021-2024). Nini is also a current member (2017-present) and Chair (2023-present) of the IH Support Group Committee, and member of the DEI Committee (2023-present). She is a proud member of the inaugural 2024 ASMBS-IH Fellowship class (FASMBS-IH).
She is also a member of The Obesity Society (TOS), past member of the TOS Education Committee, and current co-chair of the TOS Ethics Committee. She serves as the speaker for “Behavioral Management of Obesity” for the TOS prep course for physicians sitting for the ABOM exam. Her start was in lifestyle treatment, but her heart is now with MBS patients.
