My name is Dr. Ahuja. I have been a Southern IL community member since 2010 with an experience of over four thousand bariatric surgeries and thousands of other general surgeries. I was the first fellowship-trained General & Bariatric Surgeon to develop a comprehensive multidisciplinary weight loss surgery program in the Southern IL region. I developed and Directed New Life Weight Loss Center, the region’s first MBSAQIP accredited program, and developed & directed the Weight Management Services program at Good Samaritan Hospital Mount Vernon IL. I am a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery (ABS), a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and a fellow with the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Over the years, I have performed thousands of advanced complex general surgeries via laparoscopic and robotic approaches with unmatched outcomes. I am well regarded in the southern IL community, earning numerous accolades for my quality and patient-centered care. In addition to busy surgical practice, I have provided physician leadership and served on multiple hospital committees, and chaired the department of surgery at Herrin Hospital IL. Presently, I am the President of the Medical Staff at Good Samaritan Hospital. I was awarded Surgeon Champion of the Year 2109 by Illinois State Quality Improvement Collaborative (ILQIC) for my quality improvement contributions. I have provided preceptorship/case observership opportunities for regional surgeons, medical students, residents, PA students, dietitians, and RNs. I was trained in big metropolitan cities for almost a decade, and my family and I now call southern Illinois our home.
