Dr. Chen is an award-winning published researcher, national presenter, and robotic bariatric surgeon. He first became interested in bariatric surgery while doing metabolic research at the National Institutes of Health in 2008. Dr. Chen graduated from the John Hopkins University with a biology degree and the highest honors. He then proceeded to perform research at the National Institutes of Health, where he studied the link between metabolism and aging. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the prestigious Cornell University Medical School in New York City. He completed his general surgery residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He devoted an additional two years to research the gut microbiome while at Northwestern Hospital. Afterwards, he completed a fellowship program in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery from Duke University. Dr. Chen is dedicated to performing safe, effective surgery that is individualized for each patient. He is known for delivering the highest level of care with compassion, dignity, and respect for the patient and their family. He exclusively uses the state-of-the-art Da Vinci robotic surgical system to optimize patient outcomes. He performs minimally invasive procedures including gastric sleeve, gastric bypass (RYGB), biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD/DS), SADI-S, bariatric revisions, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and hernia repairs.
