Caitlin Halbert, DO MS FACS is a board-certified general surgeon with a focus in Bariatric and Foregut surgery at ChristianaCare in Delaware. She received her medical education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. While in medical school, she also completed her Masters of Science in Biomedical Sciences. She went on to complete her General Surgery residency training at ChristianaCare and before completing a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Bariatric and Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital. Dr. Halbert specializes in bariatric surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic sleeve gastrectomy, roux-en-y gastric bypass and revisional surgery. Her practice also includes complex foregut surgery, with a focus on the treatment of achalasia, gastrointestinal reflux disease, and hiatal and diaphragmatic hernias. At ChristianaCare, Dr. Halbert serves many administrative roles, including the Chief of Surgical Services at the Wilmington Campus, Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program, and member of the Medical-Dental Executive Board. She is the current President of the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. She is an active member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery (SAGES) where she currently serves on the Board of Governers, as Chair of the Community Practice committee and member of the Membership and Program committees. Secondary to her committee work, Dr. Halbert was awarded the SAGES 2022 Excellence in Community Surgery Award. She was recently named co-chair of the SAGES Annual Meeting for 2024. She has a passion for leadership education and is co-founder and current President of the Women’s Leadership in Surgery Society. Dr. Halbert is a Clinical Associate Professor at both the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson College and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has authored numerous publications and has presented at many regional and national conferences.
