Couples and weight loss surgery: Experiencing success. This was the title of my dissertation and the primary focus of my doctoral studies from 2012-2017. Upon graduation, I became the first licensed mental health provider to spearhead bariatric support groups for a hospital in Middle Tennessee. I created a support group curriculum for the program and attendance tripled. In-person groups averaged 40 participants, however, once we switched to a virtual format the average was 60 people. In 2023, after 5 years of service, I transitioned to private practice where I continue to support bariatric patients through individual and group therapy.
