Dr. Beekley is currently serves as Chief, Division of Minimally-Invasive, Metabolic, and Bariatric Surgery, and currently works on both the Bariatric Surgery and Trauma/Acute Care Surgery Services at Jefferson University Hospitals. He completed he undergraduate training at the United States Military Academy and obtained his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University. He completed general surgery internship and residency in the U.S. Army at Madigan Army Medical Center. Dr. Beekley deployed three times to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. He has published numerous articles and books on both the care of combat trauma patients and bariatric surgery patients. He remains active in both fields.
