Dr. Thomas chose a career in medicine after being inspired by his grandmother, who was an operating room nurse. “As a child, she would tell me about how she took care of patients and impacted their lives. It inspired me to choose a career where I could do the same.” As Dr. Thomas explains, it was witnessing the long-lasting change to patients’ quality of life that motivated him to specialize in bariatric surgery. “I enjoy seeing someone in clinic that has stopped all their diabetes medications and are able to walk easier. They are able to spend time with their kids or grandkids and enjoy life like they couldn’t before. Bariatric surgery offers long term, lasting benefits to patients like no other branch of medicine.” Having seen lives change in meaningful ways, Dr. Thomas describes his care philosophy as a team approach, guiding and advising patients and their families however possible. “I am here to offer my expertise and work with the patient to find something that helps them accomplish their goals and improves their quality of life.
