Dr. Sheetal Patel graduated Cum Laude from Baylor University in 1997 with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She then worked as a researcher in the department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She went on to receive her Medical Degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She completed her residency training in General Surgery at the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois. As a Resident Physician, she was the recipient of the MVP Physician Excellence Award from the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. She received further specialized training at Cleveland Clinic Florida where she completed a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Patel is a specialist in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) and robotic surgery for obesity and metabolic syndrome. She uses the Da Vinci Robotic System to perform robotic weight loss procedures, foregut surgery (hiatal/paraesophageal hernias), and uses single site robotic technology for the removal of the gallbladder. Dr. Patel also performs various general surgical procedures using minimally invasive techniques.
Dr. Patel has been published in multiple medical journals including Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, Obesity Surgery, Bariatric Times and Contemporary Surgery. She has also presented numerous research studies at the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Texas Medical Association.
Dr. Patel is married with two children. She enjoys traveling, reading, and sewing.
