Michael Green

Michael L. Green, Jr., MD, FACS, FASMBS Dr. Michael L. Green, Jr. was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and is a graduate of Benjamin Banneker Honors College at Prairie View A&M University. He obtained his medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and completed his residency training at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine in Peoria. He went on to complete his training with fellowships at the Providence Hospital, affiliated with Howard University in Washington, D.C. in advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Dr. Green has twenty years’ experience in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, with special interest in bariatric medicine. In 2003, he created “Live by Losing” with the vision of impacting the obesity epidemic. This passion for helping people regain a healthy lifestyle transcended to him founding The Green Legacy for Life Foundation, a 501C3 organization. His mission is to empower individuals to lose weight, gain a fresh start and maintain wellness for life. Dr. Green’s commitment to education in his professional life began with his involvement as a junior faculty member during his fellowship at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. His position as Director of Bariatric Surgery at Medical City Fort Worth since 2003 has allowed him to continue sharing his expertise in bariatric surgery from industry sponsored resident courses to proctoring staff surgeons. He has expanded his teaching to accept the role as core faculty at Medical City Fort Worth’s residency program since 2004, and continues to broaden his role from chairing the Residency Sub-Committee and then serving as Assistant Program Director and interim Program Director. Dr. Green currently holds a position on the board of trustee’s at Medical City Fort Worth in addition to his surgical practice and various roles at the hospital. He is also a member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Texas Association of Bariatric Surgeons and currently holds a board position with the National Medical Association. Dr. Green is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In order to provide excellent care to individuals in the DFW area, Dr. Green practices in both Fort Worth and Dallas. In addition to bariatric surgery, he also performs various advanced general surgery laparoscopic procedures.
