Adrian Dan

Dr. Adrian G. Dan is a dedicated metabolic and bariatric surgeon with over 20 years of experience, currently based in Akron, Ohio. Since 2006, he has been committed to addressing obesity and its related conditions, offering cutting-edge surgical procedures to patients in Northeastern Ohio. Dr. Dan serves as the Program Director of the Advanced GI MIS Foregut and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship Program and as the Medical Director of the Weight Management Institute at Summa Health System. Dr. Dan earned his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and completed his General Surgery Residency at Michigan State University. His expertise was further refined through a prestigious fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic under the mentorship of Dr. Philip Schauer and Dr. Bipan Chand. Dr. Dan is currently an associate Professor of Surgery at NEOMED. Passionate about research and education, Dr. Dan has contributed significantly to the field. He is the founder and director of the National Surgery Review, a platform for surgical education, and has published over 35 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Dan served as the editor of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery edition of the Surgical Clinics of North America in 2016. In leadership roles, Dr. Dan has been the past president of the Ohio and Kentucky Chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and has actively participated in national committees. He currently chairs the ASMBS Bariatric Surgery Training committee and the ASMBS curriculum redesign task force. Dr. Dan has also contributed to advocacy efforts, founding the Akron Obesity Awareness forum and leading projects to increase awareness of surgery as a powerful tool in the fight against obesity. Driven by innovation, Dr. Dan was an early adopter of robotic surgical technology in 2010 and performed the first robotic single anastomosis duodenoileostomy in Ohio. His interest in minimally invasive procedures extends to surgical education, where he founded and directs the National Surgery Review, an online platform for virtual didactics. Dr. Dan's dedication to advancing surgical education is evident through his involvement in organizing national webinars and courses for ASMBS. Throughout his career, Dr. Dan's focus has remained on providing exceptional service and surgical excellence, contributing to both the well-being of his patients and the advancement of the field
