Dr. Kirk Sahagian is a bariatric surgeon and weight loss treatment specialist. He is the Associate Medical Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Section of the Department of Surgery at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Sahagian’s professional experience includes general, bariatric, and trauma surgery as well as time as the medical director of the bariatric surgery programs at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, Tenn.
Dr. Sahagian earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and graduated with a doctorate in osteopathic medicine from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following medical school, he served as an active duty army officer and surgeon. He was deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq acting as a trauma and acute care surgeon and also as the Chief of the Department of Surgery in Talil, Iraq. After completing his army commitment he spent time in private and group practice in Clarksville, TN as a bariatric and general surgeon. He has completed additional training programs for sleeve gastrectomy, revisional bariatric, LAP-BAND, REALIZE band, endoscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery.
