Dr. Darren Tishler currently serves as the Chief of Metabolic and Bariatric surgery at Hartford Hospital and Hartford HealthCare. He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and is active in surgery resident and medical student education. Dr. Tishler graduated with an undergraduate biology degree in Neurobiology and Behavioral Sciences from Cornell University and received his medical degree at the Chicago Medical School. After his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Chicago, he completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Alabama–Birmingham before returning to his home state of Connecticut. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr Tishler’s current research interests include NIH-funded research exploring the brain response to bariatric surgery as well as investigating the long-term management of the post bariatric surgery patient. He is a medical director at Hartford HealthCare Medical Group where he also chairs the compensation committee. He serves in several local, regional, and national committees and serves as co-chair of the access to care committee of the ASMBS. He is currently the president of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He likes to spend his free time with his family boating in the summer and skiing in the winter.
